Inside Triathlon Magazine Names Boulder Top Triathlon Town
April Issue First Collaboration of New Editorial and Publishing Team
/Bicycling News Articles/ - BOULDER, CO, March 08, 2007 — Inside Triathlon magazine names Boulder, Colorado, the premier spot for triathlon in its April issue, on newsstands now. The cover of the special issue spotlights Boulder and four of the city's most prominent triathlon residents, with a 10-page feature detailing how and why the university town became an international epicenter of the sport. With miles of high-altitude running trails and cycling routes, Boulder has been a choice locale for endurance training since the 1960s and now boasts one of the largest and most elite sets of professional single-sport and multisport athletes in the world. Compounding Boulder's appeal to triathlon is the city's overwhelming number of medical, nutritional and retail resources that include the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, Whole Foods, University Bicycles and Boulder Running Company.
"Boulder has been characterized for years as a choice destination for endurance athletics," says Sarah Toland, editor-in-chief of Inside Triathlon. "Some triathletes love it, some hate it, but the truth remains that the city has a mythic appeal and a type of tri-kingdom status."
The issue also includes a special section on Masters training for triathletes, a review of the best cycling jackets for spring and a detailed report of adventure racer and Colorado resident Danelle Ballengee's miracle rescue from a Moab, Utah, canyon. The 84-page issue retails for $4.99 and can be purchased locally at Barnes and Noble, Boulder Bookstore, Border's and other select retailers.
Inside Triathlon is also pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Toland as editor-in-chief of the magazine. Toland, former managing editor for the publication, brings more than seven years experience in publishing, including a career as a weekly columnist for Boulder's Daily Camera. In addition to her editorial expertise, Toland has a thorough knowledge of running and endurance sports after an eight-year tenure as a collegiate and professional runner.
Joining Toland is new associate publisher Lars Finanger, who will take on additional responsibility from his current role as advertising director of Inside Triathlon. Finanger, a prominent amateur triathlete, is committed to making Inside Triathlon a top-shelf magazine with his industry insight of athletes, race directors, manufacturers, retailers and other major players.
