Olympic Gold Medalist Marty Nothstein to Drive Follow A Dream/Permatex/Wynn's NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car
Marty Nothstein, America's most decorated track cyclist will drive this season for Jay Blake, who is the ONLY total blind owner and crew chief in the world of motorsports.
/Bicycling News Articles/ - ALLENTOWN, PA, March 30, 2008 - Follow A Dream, Incorporated has announced that former Olympic Gold Medal cyclist Marty Nothstein will drive the team's Permatex/Wynn's Top Alcohol Funny Car for the 2008 season.
"This is the type of opportunity that a young driver hopes for," said Nothstein, who won the Olympic Gold Medal in the Match Sprint in Sydney, Australia in 2000 and the Silver Medal in the 1996 Atlanta Games. "On a professional level, Jay Blake is one of the most passionate owners when it comes to putting together a top notch racing program that can find the winner's circle on a consistent basis. On a personal level, Jay's story is so incredible, that you can't help but be inspired by him."
Jay Blake, who is the founder and crew chief of the Follow A Dream racing team, was blinded in a 1999 industrial accident that also left him without a sense of taste or smell. Blake is the only blind crew chief in the world in motorsports.
"Marty's athletic talent speaks for itself," said Blake. "You can't teach reaction time or an incredible desire to get to the line first. As a world class athlete Marty has mastered both, and now those things that made him a gold medal cyclist, makes him an up-and-coming drag racer."
Nothstein will be entering his third season in a NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car. After a successful rookie season in 2006, Nothstein found the winner's circle twice during the 2007 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series season. Marty wins came at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida in the series' season opener and then in mid-July at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois. Nothstein finished 11th in the 2007 NHRA Alcohol Funny Car season points standings.
In 2008, Nothstein and the Follow A Dream team will run a ten race schedule beginning with the Southern Nationals in Commerce, Georgia April 24th through the 27th.
