First Italy Virtual Cycling DVD Produced by Global Ride
Indoor cycling is changing and film makers are giving cyclists new reasons to pull out their old trainers. Virtual cycling DVDs are starting to flood the landscape with the most recent coming from Global Ride, as the first training ride from Italy.
LOWER BURRELL, PA, July 25, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The new genre of "virtual cycling" DVDs for indoor cycling training is still picking up steam with Global Ride's release of Speed & Power in Italy. The release is obviously timed well in advance of the upcoming winter indoor training season in the U.S. Starting with some of the early efforts of Endurance Films on behalf of the Spinning company, Mad Dogg athletics, and then followed by probably the biggest producer of indoor cycling training DVDs, Troy Jocobson of Spinerval fame, this new type of training film is gaining popularity.
After these two behemoth's in the training DVD business came two new comers to this current trend in indoor training; EpicPlanet and Global Ride. By the middle of 2009, there were as many as 13 virtual cycling DVDs among these 4 companies, and with the release of the first ride from Italy, the total comes to 14. In fact, with the release of this Italy DVD, Global Ride joins both larger companies with a total offering of 4 separate virtual cycling titles.
"We intend on releasing one series of 3 DVDs from a different country every year. With our good fortune of following a number of the same roads as the Tour of Italy in 2009, it gave us the idea of trying to do that in each country where we ride whenever possible. In 2010 we will be traveling to Australia and doing a good bit of filming on the roads used for the Tour Down Under, as well as possibly New Zealand. We plan on living up to our name of "Global Ride" by providing rides to our viewers in areas they've only dreamed of riding, and might never get a chance to visit in person." Said Gene Nacey, director and producer of Global Ride's DVDs
There are a number of reasons why this approach to indoor training has not been the norm; most notably because they simply haven't been available. However, with 14 titles currently available and more on the way, it's likely that we may be on the brink of the "new norm" for cycling training indoors. These titles are also widely available on many online retail sites, including a new site dedicated to only cycling DVDs. This too did not exist until 2008, so it may be that there are a lot more cyclists finding indoor riding a lot more interesting these days.
