Record Turnout for Cup 'n Cone Bike Tour
MS Events announces the outcome of its second race of the year to help support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
RALEIGH, NC July 31, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ - MS Events (www.mseventsnc.org), the nonprofit organization coordinating several Triangle-area bike and foot races, announced today that a record 667 participants turned out for the 5th annual Cup 'n Cone Tour held on July 25, 2009, an increase of 30 percent compared to 2008. Nearly $12,000 was raised in support of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Eastern North Carolina Chapter.
"They were all winners to me," said Bruce Bokish, MS Events director, while commenting on event participants. "With the 67-mile route arguably being one of the most difficult in the area, it took a lot of dedication from these cyclists to help raise money for such a worthy cause."
The Cup 'n Cone Tour consisted of riding a 30- 48- or 67-mile road course between Cary, N.C. and Carrboro, N.C. At each rest stop, cyclists were able to help themselves to a variety of refreshments. On the 48- and 67-mile routes, cyclists received free ice cream from Maple View Farm Dairy Store in Orange County. All three tours began and ended at Goodberry's Frozen Custard on Davis Drive in Cary, where free frozen custard was waiting for the cyclists upon their completion of the ride.
The Cup 'n Cone Tour was the second of three 2009 fundraisers that MS Events hosts. The first was held in March, where nearly 900 runners participated in the inaugural St. Patty's Run Green 8k in downtown Raleigh. The Ridgewood Turkey Trot, held annually on Thanksgiving Day, is the final 2009 event. Additional information is available at www.mseventsnc.org.
