Langkawi's first ever International Mountain Bike Challenge will take place in August.

LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA, June 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Adrenaline junkies who will be staying in Langkawi hotels at the start of August can pull on their helmets and cycling gloves and get down to the site of the Langkawi International Mountain Bike Challenge.

The event runs between August 5th and 8th 2010 on the paradise island, which is traditionally better known for its endless sandy beaches than the noise of squealing brakes and skidding tyres.

People who leave their Langkawi hotels to check out various stages of the event will be able to tell the world that they were at the first ever show of its kind on the island.

However, organisers are hoping to make it an annual occurrence provided this year's challenge proves to be a success.

A number of different races are due to take place, including cross-country and endurance competitions, with the winners of each category set to pick up prizes of up to $5,000 (GBP3,400).

Datuk Malil Mydin, chief executive officer of Human Voyage, which is behind the event, said the island of Langkawi feels "honoured" to welcome biking enthusiasts from around the world to take part in the event.

Teams are expected to arrive on August 5th, with the racing action set to take place two days later.
